Description:
The Granitola network consists of two HFR systems and retrieves surface currents every hour and wave data every 15 minutes in the western part of the Sicily Strait. Total surface currents and waves are produced by combining data from the following two systems:
- a WERA system (CGRN) operating at a central frequency of 16.1 MHz, retrieving radials every 15 minutes with a range resolution of 2.4 km; the maximum radial coverage is about 60 km;
- a CODAR system (CSMR) operating at a central frequency of 24.5 MHz, retrieving radials every hour with a range resolution of 0.998 km and an angular resolution of 5°; the maximum radial coverage is about 50 km.
Surface ocean velocities estimated by HF Radar represent the upper 0.25–0.75 meters of the ocean. The CSMR station was added on 09/10/2023.
